President's Circle Spotlights Annual Gifts

The President's Circle Subcommittee, created this year within the Annual Fund Committee, is generating increased annual support from alumni at the $1,000 and above gift level. The President's Circle is the premier recognition society established by the George Mason University Foundation to honor its most generous annual donors.

Cochairs of the new subcommittee are Edward J. Newberry, B.A., B.S. '84, and Gerard M. Stegmaier, B.A. '92, J.D. '00. Both are members and former chairs of the Annual Fund Committee.

"While the focus of the Annual Fund Committee is primarily aimed at increasing participation at any giving level, the mission of the President's Circle Subcommittee is to encourage donors to give at higher levels," says Newberry.

According to Stegmaier, gifts at this level have the greatest impact on faculty research and recruitment, as well as student scholarships. "For example, 20 members giving at the $1,000 level would fund a four-year student scholarship."

The President's Circle recognizes alumni, parents, and friends of George Mason University for gifts made during a single fiscal year (July 1-June 30). Membership benefits include recognition in the annual Honor Roll publication, invitations to special campus events, and the opportunity to network with other President's Circle donors.

To thank members of the circle for the impact that their annual gifts have on the university, President and Mrs. Alan G. Merten will host a fall reception at Mathy House.

"The President's Circle is made up of dedicated donors who are helping the university to attract and retain quality faculty and students, as well as ensure program excellence," says Merten. "I look forward to personally recognizing their participation in George Mason's future."
