EDUCATION1970s Diane DeMott Painter, B.S. Elementary Education '74 and Ph.D. Special Education Technology '94, has received an Impact II Inquiry Grant for 1999-2000 at Deer Park Elementary School in Fairfax, Va. She made a panel presentation on telecomputing in teacher-research at the Ninth Annual Teacher Research Conference on April 26, 2000. 1980s Mable T. Lyles, M.Ed. Administration and Supervision '80, announces the celebration of her and Major W's 50th wedding anniversary on July 10, 1999. 1990s Alyson Satterwhite, B.S. Early Education '90, is living in Hawaii. She and her husband, Lieutenant Commander Doug Satterwhite, announce the birth of Mark Thomas on September 27, 1999. Alyson is home-schooling their three older children, Rachel (9), Rebekah (6), and Matthew (4). Phyllis Coffee, M.Ed. Secondary Education '91, is a freelance artist and photographer. Patricia Smith, D.A. Community College Education '91, is an assistant professor of English and director of the Freshmen Writing Program at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass. Judith A. Nossaman, M.Ed. Curriculum and Instruction '94, won an Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award from the Washington Post Education Foundation for 1999-2000. She teaches at Mountain View Elementary School in Prince William County, Va. Meredith (Gustin) Hannan, B.A. English '95 and M.Ed. Special Education '99, was married in May 1999 and teaches in Fairfax County, VA. Afzal Aziz, M.Ed. Curriculum and Instruction '96, teaches Biology at Falls Church High School in Virginia, where he enjoys the students that he says, "make up a mini-United Nations." In one of his classes, there were at least nine different languages spoken. He finds it challenging and immensely rewarding. Lisa M. Leatherman, M.Ed. Curriculum and Instruction '96, won an Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award from the Washington Post Education Foundation for 1999-2000. She is a teacher at Manassas Park (Va.) Elementary School. Gail S. Newton, M.Ed. Curriculum and Instruction '97, earned a master's degree in Library Media Science from James Madison University in July 1998. Tracy Reppert, M.Ed. Special Education '97, was awarded the distinction of Professionally Recognized Special Educator by the Council for Exceptional Children. Jennifer Katz, M.Ed. Curriculum and Instruction '98 is the director of religious education at a synagogue in Cincinnati, Ohio, and her husband, Neal Katz, B.A. Government and Politics '95, is studying at a theological seminary. 2000 Marialena Bridges, M.Ed. Counseling and Development '00, is a high school guidance counselor in Stafford, Va., and is a participant in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team-In-Training for the "Great Bermuda Walk Marathon" in November.
