Two New Deans Selected

Jeffrey Gorrell, associate dean for research and graduate studies at Auburn University, has been appointed dean of the Graduate School of Education (GSE), effective June 1. He succeeds Gary Galluzzo, who took a position as executive vice president for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Effective July 1, William Reeder, vice president and general manager of the Washington Performing Arts Society (WPAS), will be the dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA).

Gorrell has served as associate dean at Auburn's College of Education since 1992. He also served as department head for Educational Foundations, Leadership, and Technology at Auburn for three years, and before that was director of the Southeastern Louisiana University Human Development Institute, where he handled program and research development in areas associated with child and adult development. He has 25 years of experience as a professor and has conducted research in the fields of school reform, cognitive modeling, and teacher efficacy and professional development. He earned his B.A. in English from Vanderbilt University and his M.A. in English and Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Florida.

CVPA's new dean, William Reeder, has had a career in education, management, philanthropic administration, and the arts that has spanned 30 years. Prior to his work at WPAS, he served as executive director of the Sallie Mae Trust for Education and executive director of the Levine School of Music in Washington, D.C. In addition, Reeder was president of the Saint Louis Conservatory of Music and executive director of Opera Music Theatre International and the Newark Community School of the Arts, where he received the first Governor's Award for Excellence in Arts Education from the state of New Jersey.
