1970s

Mary Clark Forbes, B.A. History '74, lost her brother, Deputy Robert Clark, who was murdered by a drug felon. She and her family have honored his memory by establishing a scholarship for law enforcement students and successfully lobbying Congress to designate Ohio a high-intensity drug-trafficked area, making the state eligible for federal help in fighting drug crimes.

Mark Monson, B.S. Biology '74, reports that his daughter, Andi, is a freshman at George Mason.

Mick Curran, B.A. English and American Studies '75, and Mike Rappaport, a past Broadside editor, have serialized their novel, The Woman in the Box, and presented it in 12 weekly installments on the Internet. Their work was published by MightyWords.

Mark Hazard Osmun, B.A. English '75, has written a new novel, Marley's Ghost, a dark prequel to Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol. It is published by Twelfth Night Press and available at independent, chain, and online booksellers.

Dianne Walbrecker, B.A. Psychology '79, owns and operates her own small business, Getting It Write, which has produced seven books on marketing and management and created more than 40 training courses for government agencies and private corporations. She also has been a full-time employee of the Federal Emergency Management Agency since 1977 and lives in Emmitsburg, Md.

1980s Greg Simione, B.A. Theater '80, danced professionally from 1981 to 1990, and taught briefly at George Mason, George Washington University, and the University of California at Santa Barbara. He then worked for Delta Airlines, retiring in 1999 as station manager at San Francisco Airport. He now lives in the mountains of Idaho and works for Capital One in Boise.

Cynthia Diane Hatley, M.P.A. '83, assumed a new position as transit director for the Town of Jackson and Teton County in Wyoming in May 2000. Prior to this move, she was a senior planner for Howard/Stein-Hudson Associates in Boston, Mass.

Sharon D. Ewing, M.F.A. Creative Writing '85, edited Earth and Soul: An Anthology of North Carolina Poetry, which will be published in English and Russian. This project was awarded $2,500 by the North Carolina Arts Council to the Kostroma Committee of the Sister Cities of Durham to help fund the anthology's publication.

John Bosma, B.A. Communication '86, completed his Ph.D. at the University of Texas in August 2000. John, a web developer at IBM in Austin, and his wife, Juanita, have just celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary.

1990s

Janice H. Laurence, M.A. Psychology '90 and Ph.D. Psychology '93, was elected a Fellow of the American Psychological Association for 2001 by her peers for exceptional and outstanding contributions to the field of psychology. She is currently manager at the Human Resources Research Organization.

Victoria (McDermott) Reddell, B.A. Speech Communication '90 and J.D. '93, and her husband, Captain Matthew R. Reddell, announce the birth of their daughter, Arrabella Elizabeth, on July 28, 2000. The baby's godparents are Jennifer (McDermott) Hensley, B.S.N. '95, and Damien McDermott, B.S. Electrical Engineering '93.

Kent Allan Fagan, B.S. Biology '91, earned a Ph.D. in neurosciences from the University of Colorado at Denver and recently became a faculty member at the University of Colorado. He, his wife, and two daughters live in Aurora, Colo.

Elisabeth A. Murawski, M.F.A. Creative Writing '91, won third prize in this year's Anne Stanford Poetry contest. The poem will be published in the Southern California Anthology.

Kevin R. Murphy, B.S. Public Administration '91, was promoted to vice president at Sports Construction of American Athletic Inc., a manufacturer of athletic equipment for stadiums and arenas.

Corina Alvarez, B.A. International Studies '92, earned an M.S. in integrated communications advertising and public relations from Florida International University in Miami and works as a public relations regional manager for despegar.com.

Andrew McMichael, B.A. History '93 and M.A. History '96, finished his Ph.D. at Vanderbilt University and is starting an editorial job at the Thomas Jefferson Papers, located at Princeton University

Victoria Reeder, B.A. Communication '93, earned a J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, Calif.

Barbara (Hitt) Sepdham, B.S. Biology '93, earned her M.S. in biology from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1997 and teaches biology at community colleges. Her husband, Dan Sepdham, B.S. Biology '93, earned his M.D. at the Medical College of Virginia; graduated from family practice residency in San Antonio, Texas; and is a flight surgeon at Tyndall Air Force Base. The couple lives in Panama City, Fla.

Katie Triplett, B.A. International Relations '93, earned a B.A. in film and art history and has worked on the films Blair Witch 2, The Replacements, and My Father's House. She works for Warner Brothers, Artisan Entertainment, and KZLA Radio, in Los Angeles, Calif.

Robert J. Cagungun, B.A. International Studies '94, is a tariff analyst with Airline Tariff Publishing Company in Dulles, Va.

Suzanne Dow, B.A. Communication '94 and M.A. Interdisciplinary Studies '96, and her husband have just completed their sixth season of research for the U.S. National Forest Campground Guide and have published their third book. Dow also teaches English and communication classes at Cochise Community College in Douglas, Ariz., when the couple is not on the road.

Kevin J. Mulrone, B.A. International Studies '94, completed a master's degree in education from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and has been teaching fifth grade in Howard County, Md., since 1997. He and his wife have accepted jobs to teach at the Schutz American School in Alexandria, Egypt.

Katy (Pribble) Cooke, B.A. Communication '95, married David A. Cooke, B.S. Computer Science '94, in September 1998. They have one daughter, Julia Paige, born on June 2, 2000.

Kim Danoff, B.A. Biology '95, received her D.V.M. from the University of Florida, finished a year-long internship at Tuft's University School of Veterinary Medicine, and works as a veterinarian for Southpaws Animal Hospital in Springfield, Va.

Jean Donnelly, M.F.A. Poetry '95, won a National Poetry Series Award. Her book, Anthem, was selected by Charles Bernstein for publication by Sun & Moon Press.

Jill (Voigt) Emerson, B.A. Government and Politics '95, married Frank Emerson, earned her M.S.W. from Virginia Commonwealth University, and is the community director at Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa.

Tiffany Ingham, B.A. Biology '95, earned her M.D. from Eastern Virginia Medical School on May 20, 2000. She is now completing her residency in internal medicine at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.

Kelleigh Mahoney, B.A. English with a minor in Art '95, returned to teaching 11th grade English after working for the Portsmouth Museums for two years.

Lynn (Zurndorfer) Collins, B.A. Psychology '96, earned a master's degree from James Madison University in 1998 and is a special education teacher in Prince William County. She married Brad Collins, Engineering '00, on August 6, 2000. The couple resides in Manassas, Va.

Kurt Kemper, M.A. History '96, completed his Ph.D. in American History at Louisiana State University and teaches at River Parishes Community College in Louisiana.

Charlotte (Rooney) Scandlen, B.A. Government and Politics '96, and Josh Scandlen, B.A. Economics '97, had a daughter, Madelyn, on August 14, 2000. Charlotte was recently promoted to research analyst at ING Pilgrim Investments in Scottsdale, Ariz., and Josh is an investment advisor at Charles Schwab.

Olga J. Barrientos, B.A. Communication '97, is employed at America Online Inc. in advertising operations/interactive marketing.

Troy L. Cornett, B.A. English '97, is happily editing periodicals as assistant to the administrative director for the American Society of Pension Actuaries in Arlington, Va.

David J. Stemple, B.A. Music '97, is the computer network and music specialist at The Music Place and CDs for Less at Lake Monticello in Virginia.

Michael Thomas, B.A. Theater '97, has just passed his sommelier certification held by the Court of Master Sommeliers. Michael is a sales representative in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Calif., for a distribution/import/brokerage company that specializes in fine wines from around the world.

William Welsh, M.A. English '97, is a staff writer with Washington Technology magazine, published by Post-Newsweek Business Information, Vienna, Va. His freelance writing has appeared in America's Civil War magazine, Landscape Architecture magazine, and the Washington Post.

Louise Muniak, B.A. English '98, was a regional finalist in the 2000 Saturn Women at Their Best Awards and was honored along with two other finalists at a special awards ceremony at Saturn of Alexandria, October 25, 2000.

2000s

S. Toula Avramis, B.A. Government and Politics '00, attends law school at Catholic University and is engaged to be married in June 2001.

Robert Lockhart, M.A. History '00, was appointed history and American studies editor for the University of Pennsylvania Press. Look for him at the annual meeting of the American Historical Association hawking his wares at the book exhibit.

Cathy Slatinshek, M.A. History '00, is the deputy director of the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. You can see her handiwork at the old Heurich house in the city and in an upcoming article in the Virginia Cavalcade.

Beth Anne Hutton Williams, B.A. History '00, was married August 12, 2000, to Rudi Williams.
