Education1970sCarolyn Kreiter Gomez-Foronda, M.Ed. '73, M.A. English '79 and D.A.Ed. '83, is an English and creative writing teacher at West Springfield High School in Fairfax County, Va., and received a Meritorius Educator Award from the Springfield Rotary Club (1997), the Fairfax County Public Schools' Hodgson Award in English (1997), and a National Scholastic Teacher Portfolio Award (1997).1980sRosanne T. White, M.Ed. Administration and Supervision '82, earned her doctor of education from Virginia Tech in the fall of 1997. Rosanne is the executive director of the Technology Student Association in Reston, Va.Darnell Wise Lightbourne, M.Ed. Elementary Education '83, is assistant principal at Sterling Elementary School in Sterling, Va. Before becoming assistant principal, Lightbourne taught for 27 years in the Arlington County Public Schools. Andrea Lee Reuter, M.Ed. Special Education '84, is employed by Nash-Rocky Mount Schools as an LD teacher at Southern Nash Jr. High School in Rocky Mount, N.C. Janice A. Hagan, M.Ed. Secondary Education '85, has retired and does volunteer work in her community. Her grandson, Jeff Jones, is in his junior year at George Mason as a physical education major. John Michalenko, M.Ed. Counseling and Development '87, has been named director of career services at Robert Morris College in Moon Township, Pa. Joan Barchi Odell, M.Ed. Administration and Supervision '87, is assistant university secretary at the University of Delaware and was one of 75 participants from the United States, Canada, Nigeria, and South Africa to attend the Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration, held at Bryn Mawr College this past summer. Elizabeth A. Lahm, D.A.Ed. '88 and Ph.D. '95, is an assistant professor in the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling at the University of Kentucky. 1990sJeffrey T. Osborne, B.S. Early Education '90, is married to Catherine Bourgeois, and they have a daughter, Victoria Tatiana.John C. Acquaviva, M.S. Physical Education '91, is a new faculty member at Roanoke College, where he is assistant professor of physical education. Acquaviva earned his Ph.D. in physical education teacher education from Florida State University. Mary Overton Beall, B.S. Education '91, published her first book, The Wine of Astonishment: Stories, under her maiden name, Mary Overton. Jonathan Harding, M.Ed. Secondary Education '91, announces the birth of his daughter, Devin Nicole, on October 20, 1996. Gary Smucker, M.Ed. Curriculum and Instruction '91, has been appointed chair of the English as a Second Language Department at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va. Rick Catlett, M.Ed. Leadership and Human Development '95, was appointed principal at Johnson-Williams Middle School in Clarke County, Va. Caroline Keith Herlong-Myers, M.Ed. Reading Specialty '95, adopted a daughter, Carrie Elizabeth Myers, from Jiangxi Province, China, in January 1997. Jennifer Nicole DiBella, M.Ed. Curriculum and Instruction '97, was accepted as a Peace Corps volunteer and is working as a preschool teacher trainer in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Sean Lanigan, B.S. Physical Education '97, married Karin Sisco Lanigan, and they have an infant daughter, Briana. Sean is a professional soccer trainer, director of coaching for Reston Soccer, and head men's coach at Herndon High School in Fairfax County, Va. Walter J. Moeller, M.Ed. Curriculum and Instruction '97, is teaching history and geography at J.E.B. Stuart High School in Fairfax County, Va.
