Papst, B.A. History '73, has her own travel conseling service in Dahlonega, Ga., called Travel Planning, Inc. Marcos T. Calderon, B.S. Economics '74 and M.A. Economics '76, a management officer with Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization, was transferred from Buenos Aires, Argentina, to office headquarters in Washington, D.C. Melvin LeRoy Andrews, B.A. Psychology '75, is a gambling problems counselor and chairman of the board of directors of Positive Outcomes Charter School in Dover, Del. Beth A. McAllister, B.A. Sociology '76, has completed 15 credit hours toward a M.Ed. in media instructional technology at State University of West Georgia. Arnold J. Denys, M.A. History '78, a retired foreign service officer, has published privately his memoirs, Son of Flanders, The Making of a Consul, From the Diary of a Foreign Service Officer. It will be used for research by scholars interested in life and work in U.S. diplomacy. Gregory W. Fabian, III, B.S. Biology '78 and M.S. Biology '81, married Andrea Wiggins in September 1997. Thomas Arrowsmith, B.M. Music/Guitar Performance '79, is the information specialist for the Respiratory Care Services Department at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, Va. Tom worked as a professional musician until 1984 when he returned to school for training in respiratory therapy. He continues to spend much of his spare time with electronic music, computers, guitars, and multitrack recorders.
1980sSteven Laurence Frazier, B.A. History '81, received a master of divinity/master of arts dual degree from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia on June 1, 1997.Garrison Hull, B.M. Music Composition '81, won the 1997 international competition sponsored by the renowned Louisville Orchestra. The orchestra performed his "Of Prayer and Praise" at Contemporary Music Festival at Indiana State University in October 1997. Einar S. Olsen, M.P.A. '82, is regional chief ranger for the National Park Service, National Capital Region in Washington, D.C. Belle Waring, B.A. English '84, has had her second collection of poetry, Dark Blonde, published in November 1997 by Sarabande Books, Inc., and draws from her experience as a neonatal intensive care nurse in Washington, D.C. Her first collection, Refuge (University of Pittsburgh Press, 1990), won the Associated Writing Programs' Award for Poetry in 1989, the Washington Prize in 1991, and was cited by Publishers Weekly as one of the best books of 1990. Linda (Lou) B. Pollard, B.A. Government and Politics '86, was promoted to executive director of OPTIONS Health Care, Inc., in Norfolk, Va. She oversees the research proposals and marketing department for this national, behavioral-health, managed-care company. Lou and her husband, Bill, live in Portsmouth, Va. Catherine Fiddler, B.A. Speech Communication '87, is a full-time mother of three children, ages 14, 6, and almost 2. James P. Brown, B.A. Government and Politics '88, and Stephanie Wynkoop Brown, celebrated their son Collin James Brown's first birthday on December 1, 1997. Jim is vice president of Metropolitan Title & Escrow in Centreville, Va. Bill Hansen, B.S. Economics '88, is a commissioner on the National Commission on the Cost of Higher Education, a congressional/presidential commission. Alan Walker, B.A. Psychology '88 and M.A. History '93, works as a photographic specialist at the National Archives' Still Picture Branch in College Park, Md. Randy Hall, B.M. Music Education '89, is associate director of education for Carnegie Hall in New York City. He manages LinkUP! and JazzEd, which reach more than 22,000 students and teachers in the New York City area each year. Deborah S. Snyder, M.F.A. Poetry '89, has had her poems published in Blood to Remember: American Poets on the Holocaust, Union Street Review, Black Buzzard Review, The Poet's Domain, and in the Journal of General Internal Medicine.

Geology '90, was married in April 1997 and works as a senior geotechnical engineer on a design team for the Central Artery Tunnel ("The Big Dig") in Boston, Mass.Judy Knop, B.A. English '91 and M.A. English '94, is serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Bulgaria. She is teaching English at the Maxim Gorki Language School in Stara Zagora. Teresa Zell, B.A. Psychology '91, lives in Tucson, Ariz., where she volunteers in areas of AIDS education and substance abuse. John J. La Penta, M.A. International Affairs '92, lives in Alpharetta, Ga., and is an attorney for MCI Telecommunication Corp. Alex Onuska, Jr., B.S. Economics '92, works for Fort James Corp., Trumbull, Conn., as distribution/operations coordinator. Sudeep Bose, B.S. Psychology '93, has earned a J.D. degree and is the executive director of business operations and strategic affairs for Infringatek, Inc., a Vienna, Va.-based computer network consulting firm. Jarrod Haywood Brown, B.S. Biology '93, graduated from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry with a doctor of dental surgery degree and is in practice in the Tidewater area. She is working for the Discovery Channel in Bethesda, Md., as a production coordinator. Jason D. Reis, B.A. Economics '93, had a summer internship at the United Nations in New York City and finished his M.S. degree in management information systems at Stevens Institute of Technology in December 1997. Thom Shepherd, B.A. Speech Communication '93 is a songwriter for Monk Family Music Group Publishing and is pursuing a recording career in country music. He performs regularly in Nashville and won first place at the Opryland Hotel Talent Showcase two years in a row. Amy F. Shiflett, B.S. Biology '93 and B.S. Medical Technology '94, will be getting married on April 25, 1998. Coletta Treakle, B.S. Public Administration '93, expects to graduate with her M.P.A. from George Mason in May 1998. Majeed Najeh Abedeljalil, B.A. Government and Politics '94, works for Best Buy Company in Fredericksburg, Va., and has recently married. Christian Ergueta, B.A. Government and Politics '94, is a member of the band, Ghoti Hook, which has sold more than 20,000 records. They have a new release called "Banana Man." Emily A. Field, B.A. English '94, will graduate from Georgetown Law School in May 1998 and will be married shortly thereafter. Virginia Fissmer, B.A. English '94, has retired from the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C. Stephen O. Gyamfi, B.S. Public Administration '94 and M.A.I.T. '97, is a senior financial anaylst at SAIC in Falls Church, Va. Gary Ruland, B.S. Chemistry '94, finished a Ph.D. in physical chemistry at the University of Buffalo and is a senior scientist with Crystal Associates, Inc., in East Hanover, N.J. His first child, Meredith Hale Ruland, was born on March 21, 1997. Karen Weis, B.A. Speech Communication '94, has moved to Boulder, Colo., and works for Bill Goldsmith Productions while trying to break into the local music scene. Julie Zurndorfer, B.S. Psychology '94, earned an M.S. in counseling psychology from Marymount University in 1996 and works as a psychological associate for a private organization in Washington, D.C. Thomas W. Baker, B.A. Economics '95, married Shelley Baker in July 1996, and they now live in Florida. Thomas is the kitchen manager for Durango Steak House in Palm Beach Gardens. Tami L. Dimock, B.A. English '95, is a writer/editor with University Publications at George Mason. Undra Anita Jones, B.A. Communication '95, is a public relations coordinator for Disney on Ice, Feld Entertainment, Inc. Fredrick T. Jorgensen, B.A. International Studies '95, a marketing analyst for the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, expects to graduate from Virginia Commonwealth University in May 1998 with an M.S. in advertising account management. James R. Millner, II, B.A. Government and Politics '95, is deputy director of communications for Whitman-Walker Clinic, one of the largest AIDS service organizations in the United States. Linda (Grillo) Yarbrough, B.A. Psychology '95, is a school administrator at Georgetown Day School in Washington, D.C., and married Jim Yarbrough in May 1997. Eric E. Bayles, B.S. Economics '96, a marine corporal, has reported for duty aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Nimitz, whose home port is in Bremerton, Wash. Gretchen Bowles, M.A. Euphonium Performance '96, is working toward a doctorate in euphonium performance at the University of Southern Mississippi. Charles Burke, M.A. Conducting '96, is a D.M.A. student in orchestral conducting at the University of Michigan, where he received a full fellowship. Theodore D. Burnes, B.A. Government and Politics '96, is in his final year at George Washington University in the public administration program and is an internal policy analyst at PRC Environmental Management, Inc., an environmental engineering company. Charles H. Martinez, M.P.A. '96, moved back to his native Texas after serving as a budget management analyst with the City of Alexandria, Va. He now works for the City of San Antonio as a management analyst. Scott Shingler, B.A. Biology '96, won the Northern Virginia Amateur Championship at Army Navy Country Club in Fairfax, Va., in August 1997. Shingler works and plays at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. Ed Aymar, B.A. English '97, works for C-SPAN as an education and marketing services assistant while pursuing an M.A. in literature at Georgetown University part time. Wesley L. Feight, M.A. History '97, a marine captain, reported for duty at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
