1980sRichard Davies, B.S. Psychology '81, received an M.B.A. from Vanderbilt University in 1984 and married in 1986. Katharine (Crouthamel) Hunter, B.A. Psychology '81, is the new owner of School of Applied Kinesthetic Studies, a 500+ hours massage school located in Herndon, Va. Aylin N. Cankardes, B.S. Public Administration and Economics '83, is vice president for sales and the only female executive at Capital Associates International, Inc., in Lakewood, Colo. She married in 1997 and has a baby daughter, Alexa Kara. Denise Fleenor-Spenik, B.A. Studio Art '85, is an at-home mother to her one-and-one-half-year-old son, Kyle, and her infant daughter, Alexandra Denise. J. Lance Sherrill, B.A. Area Studies (Latin) '85, a high school history teacher and head coach for track and field at Brentsville High School in Prince William County, Va., is married to Ayleen Cunningham-Sherrill, B.A. '86, and they have a one-year-old son, Bobby Lance. Judy Bray Cook, B.A. Fine Arts '86, held a one-person exhibit of artwork in October 1998, produced cover illustrations for a book by Jack Gant published in 1998, completed master's degree at Furman University in 1998, and is teaching at-risk middle school students social studies and science in the Greenville County, S.C., schools. Deborah Doane, B.A. Communication '87, has a new job in property management with Regency Realty Corporation, a national commercial real estate firm specializing in neighborhood shopping centers in Atlanta. She has also received a Georgia real estate license. Deborah Guenther, B.A. International Studies '87, has been living and working in Greece for the past 12 years where she teaches English as a Foreign Language to children ages 7-18. Loretta Prencipe, B.A. Russian Studies '87 and J.D. '95, was nominated for the Public Relations Society of America's 1998 Awards for Excellence in Technology Journalism. Prencipe was nominated by Network World Magazine for her article "Volunteer for Adventure." The article can be found on CNN's website. Paul Torpey, B.A. Communication '87 and M.A.I.S. '95, is working for Booz Allen & Hamilton on safety contracts. Beverlee Winnett Seelig, B.A. English and Economics '88, is living in South Africa where she is working in conservation finance. She received a master of international management degree in 1995 from the American Graduate School of International Management. Bruce Bevans, B.A. Philosophy '89, graduated from the Virginia Theological Seminary in 1996, was ordained as an Episcopal priest on January 7, 1997, and is the rector of Bath Episcopal Parish in the Diocese of Southern Virginia. Bevans entered the priesthood after a 21-year career as a musician in the U.S.A.F. Band, Washington, D.C. Larry Donathan, B.A. International Studies '89, was ordained an Episcopal priest in 1994, served in parishes in Alabama and Philadelphia, and is currently involved in cross-cultural ministry as pastor of a racially and culturally diverse parish in Mt. Rainier, Md. Juan Carlos Fierro, B.A. Government and Politics '89, works for Morgan Stanley Dean Witter and has completed his M.B.A. degree. Patrick Moriarty, B.A. History and International Studies '89 and M.A. International Transactions '97, is doing linguistic work for the U.S. government security systems and lives with his wife, Tobi, and their new daughter, Peyton Jennifer, in Reston, Va.
1990sGregory Grimes, B.S. Public Administration '90, was married in 1997 and his first child, Jerry Lewis Grimes, was born March 7, 1999. Grimes says he continually makes use of the Enterprise Center's University Drive location. Eric Lindenberg, B.S. Public Administration '90, is engaged to Nora Hundelt and the wedding date is September 18, 1999. Hermenegildo Isidro, B.A. International Studies '91 and M.A. International Transactions '93, graduated from Brooklyn Law School with a J.D. in 1997 and is a member of the New York and New Jersey State Bar Associations. He is an attorney with the Manhattan office of Lustig & Brown, LLP. Pauline (Robertson) Lanciotti, B.A. History '91, married her husband, Bob, in 1995 and their daughter, Sarah, was born in February 1998. Pauline received her teaching certificate at the University of Pittsburgh. John Laughbaum, B.A. Government and Politics '91, was a lobbyist in Washington, D.C., received an M.B.A. from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management of Northwestern University in 1997, and is now employed as Director of Strategic Planning by AFLAC. He and his wife, Elaine, are expecting their first child. Kevin R. Murphy, Jr., B.S. Public Administration '91, is engaged to Jenny Bingaman and employed as National Sales Director for American Athletic, Inc. Triesha (Glick) Foglia, M.A. School Psychology '92, and her husband, David, welcomed son Benjamin Michael to their family on April 19, 1999. Adam J. Miller, B.A. Communication '92, was promoted to associate producer at Fox Sports News in Los Angeles, Calif., and married Heather Minor on May 15, 1999, in Virginia. John T. Winkler, II, B.A. International Affairs '92, is the alumni advisor to Kappa Alpha Order at Mason and was activated for service in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1997 as part of the Maryland Army National Guard Field Artillery unit. Julie Boone, B.A. Government and Politics '93, is a career counselor at Scripps College in Claremont, Calif. Rosa Angela Cruz, B.A. International Studies '93, is leaving a position as production assistant at ESPN sports to be an associate producer for WTUR-Channel 6, the CBS affiliate in Richmond, Va. Tobin Foryt, B.A. English '93, is now working for Bayer Corporation in the Diagnostics Division in Tarrytown, N.Y. Cynthia D. Henry, B.A. International Studies '93, an ER nurse and graduate student at Johns Hopkins University, received her B.S. from Hopkins and is working on a nurse practitioner degree with an adult/critical care/cardiology focus. Jeanne Fleming Kruza, B.A. English '93, and husband Tom, welcomed a baby girl on July 7, 1998, named Caroline Josephine. Kruza received her master's degree in community counseling from George Washington University in 1998. Arthur Moosally, B.S. Biology '93, graduated from chiropractic school in 1998 and opened Millennium Chiropractic in Reston, Va., in April 1999. He married Katrina Evans, B.A. Communication '95, in 1994. Michael Philippovic, B.A. Communication '93, got married in November 1997 in Houston and is working on an M.B.A. with an emphasis in management information systems at the University of Houston. Ashley Piner, B.A. Communication '93, is an account representative at Sullivan's Staffing in Savannah, Ga. Thom Shepherd, B.A. Speech Communication '93, has signed an exclusive songwriting agreement with Monk Family Music Group/Curb Music Publishing in Nashville, Tenn. Curb Music is the publishing division of Curb Records, home of LeAnn Rimes, Tim McGraw, Wynonna, and Sawyer Brown. Shepherd is a full-time songwriter and performing musician. Melissa Allen, B.A. Communication '94, is in the U.S. Army as a medical veterinary food inspector. She is also attending Old Dominion University and working on a master's in environmental health. Michelle Archilla-Crafts, B.A. International Relations '94, enjoys life in San Diego with her husband, Mike Crafts. Stacey Babish, B.S. Public Administration '94 and M.Ed. Special Education '99, married Steve Babish in August 1997. She has completed her first year of teaching eighth-grade students with learning disabilities in Loudoun County (Va.). Her parents have opened the Foxfield Inn, a bed and breakfast in Charlottesville, Va. Kevin Dean Rice, B.A. History '94, married Carol Mirko Rice, B.A. Anthropology '94, and opened Rice Contracting Corporation on June 1, 1998, with his father. Rice Contracting specializes in site work in the Northern Virginia area; Kevin is the vice president. Deborah R. Fair, M.A. Philosophy '94, graduated summa cum laude with a master of divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., in May 1996. She was ordained a deacon of the Virginia United Methodist Church at the annual conference in June 1996. and is currently serving as associate pastor at Grace United Methodist Church in Manassas, Va. Anna Hughes Myers, B.A. History '94, graduated from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond in 1997 and married Joseph William Myers in August 1997. Melissa Unterseher, B.A. Sociology '94, is a juvenile probation officer in Travis County Juvenile Court in Austin, Tex., and will be assistant women's soccer coach for a university in the area starting in the fall. Thomas W. Baker, B.A. Economics '95, is running one of the hottest night clubs in West Palm Beach, and he and his wife, Shelley, are expecting their first child in December. He is very excited about Mason's Men's Basketball Team and encourages them to KEEP IT UP!!! William Bassler, B.S. Psychology '95, graduated from University of Virginia School of Law with a J.D. in May 1998. Karen McAndrew Hyderkhan, B.A. Communication '95, married Stewart Hyderkhan in 1994. They have two cats and enjoy traveling to Europe and the beaches in the United States. She plans to return to school for an M.S. in marketing. Andrea Lockhart, B.A. Government and Politics '95, is a Navy Ensign and has completed the officer indoctrination course at Naval Station Newport, R.I. Chris Nicholson, B.A. Communication '95, married Sheri Cauger in May 1999, and works at the National Association of Broadcasters as newsletter editor in the corporate communications department. Peter Sperry, M.P.A. '95, was named a budget policy analyst at the Heritage Foundation, a prominent Washington, D.C., think tank. Page Tran, B.A. International Studies '95, and husband Toan Tran, current Mason student, became the proud parents of a baby boy, Mason Toan Tran, named after George Mason University. Anne Byron Sullivan, B.A. Speech Communication '96, married Sean Sullivan on April 24, 1999, in Centreville, Va. Heather Ferb, B.M. '96, plans to marry Michael Parnell, M.A. Music '95, on October 9, 1999, in Arlington, Va. Sarah Raskin, B.A. Interdisciplinary Studies '96, is self-employed in theater and television research and is currently doing research for T.N.T.'s Monstervision, starring Joe Bob Briggs. Gilda Squire, B.A. Communication '96, is a project manager in the corporate communications department of Goldman Sachs in New York City. She also writes freelance entertainment and lifestyle feature articles for Black Elegance and Upscale magazines. Squire was selected to be a judge at the NAACP's National Convention for the annual ACT-SO "Olympic of the Minds" competition held July 9 through 12, 1999. Jeffrey Topp, B.S. Mathematics '96, has earned a M.S. in mathematics from Virginia Tech. Ian Winne, B.A. Communication '96, works for Qwest Communications in the local connectivity division. He is also working on an M.B.A. at the Keller Graduate School of Management. J. Seth Witmer, B.A. History '96, moved back home to Illinois and has been accepted to the master's degree program in history at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill. His daughter, Victoria, was born in November 1997. Doug Boyles, B.A. English '97 and Susan Walcroft Boyles, B.A. Economics '97, will soon be moving to Mons, Belgium, where Doug will continue his work as an army broadcast journalist at SHAPE, a NATO support post. Doug recently won the Department of Defense Thomas Jefferson award for television spot production. Kenneth Corson, B.S. Psychology '97, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Master of Social Work degree in May 1999 and he also received School Social Work Certification at the same time. Robert Dustin Cushman, B.A. Anthropology '97, entered a doctoral program in anthropology at Temple University in the fall of 1998. Sandra Escalante-Smith, B.A. Spanish Language and Literature '97, is in the elementary education program at Cameron University and will begin student teaching in January 2000. She expects to finish in December 2000. Laura HeflinTaylor, B.A. International Studies '97, married Mark Taylor in August 1998. Jim Larsen, B.A. English '97, is producing a documentary on ex-Talking Heads frontman and Oscar-winning composer David Byrne and his Luaka Bop label. Larsen will direct the documentary titled "Seeking Heat." Robert Matheson, B.A. History '97, is president and founder of Earlyman Technologies, LLC, an Internet development group in Washington, D.C., www.earlyman.com. Anthony Reza Samadani, B.A. International Studies '97, has been named a 1999-2000 Lead Articles Editor for Southwestern University School of Law's Southwestern University Law Review. Stephanie Storck, B.S. Psychology '97, is employed by a counseling practice working with emotionally disturbed children and children with behavior disorders in York, Pa. She will wed Christian Mitzel on September 12, 1999. John Tucker, B.S. Physics '97, received an M.S. in physics from Virginia Tech in May 1999. Anita Furtner, B.A. English '98, has been accepted to North Carolina State University as a teaching assistant entering the master's program for composition and rhetoric. Kelly Joyner, M.F.A. Fiction '98, is teaching as an adjunct faculty member in the English Department at Mason. His story "The Derby" will be in the summer 1999 issue of Orange Willow Review. Sara J. Lee, B.A. Sociology '98, works at Marasco Newton Group, Ltd., an environmental consulting firm, as administrative assistant for the senior vice president of environmental science and technology. Amy Trent, B.A. International Studies '98, is working for the Department of Energy, getting married on May 13, 2000, just bought a townhouse, and believes that Mason needs football. Alexander C. Wade, B.A. Biology '98, is enrolled at the George Washington University School of Medicine and will begin his second year this August.
