This fall, Mason students were greeted with the aroma of barbecued ribs with the opening of an on-campus Damon’s Grill restaurant operated by Sodexho, the university’s campus dining partner. The 150-seat restaurant, housed in Student Union Building I, is open for lunch and dinner, serving into the late-night hours.
Damon’s Grill, based in Columbus, Ohio, is known for its barbecued ribs and big-screen entertainment. It is one of the nation’s largest casual dining chains and has 120 locations worldwide. According to Damon’s corporate headquarters, Mason is the country’s first university to provide students, faculty, and staff with a full-service, branded casual dining restaurant. The sports-themed restaurant features the chain’s signature Clubhouse, which is equipped with giant video screens for sports, network programming, and interactive entertainment, as well as tiered seating and tabletop speakers. Other amenities include a bar, a quick-service dining area, and curbside delivery. Damon’s also caters campus events.
“Whether our guests wish to enjoy dinner and catch the latest sporting events in the Clubhouse or grab a fast meal or snack, Damon’s can provide something for everyone,” says Mohsen Emami, general manager of Mason Dining Services.
The on-campus Damon’s Grill seeks specifically to serve the Mason community. The restaurant’s traditional, sports-oriented décor has a distinctly Mason feel. Displays of memorabilia reflect both past and present Patriot teams and create a relaxing atmosphere full of school spirit.
The Alumni Association plans to take advantage of this new space when it hosts such events as pregame gatherings, game viewings, networking receptions, and chapter activities. In addition, Damon’s Grill provides an ideal meeting place for friends, families, and students on campus for athletic events, art exhibitions and performances, and other university gatherings.
