A total of 127 countries were represented among the 29,600 students enrolled at George Mason University this past academic year. Mason also boasted enrollment of 1,710 international students.
This high international contingent is reflected in the results of a national survey conducted by The Princeton Review designating Mason as the most diverse institution of higher learning in the United States.
“The great diversity among our student population gives our institution a richness that, in many ways, distinguishes Mason from many of our peer colleges and universities,” says President Alan Merten. “This is a strength that we work hard to maintain in order to enhance the integrity of our academic mission and overall campus life.”
The countries most represented at Mason included India with 303 students, China with 153, the Republic of Korea with 85, and Saudi Arabia with 61. Currently, Mason has 2,280 African American students, 108 Native American students, 3,681 Asian American students, and 1,678 Hispanic American students.
The rankings in “The Best 361 Colleges” are based on The Princeton Review’s survey of 110,000 students attending colleges and universities. Students participating in the survey rated their schools on several topics and reported on their campus experiences. Topics range from best professors, administration, and campus food to student body political leanings, interest in sports, and other aspects of campus life.
Mason is also recognized by The Princeton Review in its “Best Southeastern Colleges and Universities” and “America’s Best Value College” lists. Value is based on cost and financial aid among the most academically outstanding colleges in the nation.
