The annual birthday celebration of university namesake, George Mason, will be held on Saturday, December 2, from noon until 3 p.m. aboard the Miss Mallory, a private charter boat that will sail from the Alexandria City Marina. A delicious buffet lunch and birthday cake will be provided as we enjoy a narration of the sights and monuments along the river. The cost is only $35 per person, and alumni are encouraged to bring family and friends. Reservations are limited to the first 50 to sign up and pay. Sign up at www.gmu.edu/alumni by clicking on “Activities and Events” and going to “Birthday Event.”
Mason Speakers, the university’s community outreach program, provides speakers, free of charge, to community groups throughout the year. Alumni are invited, not only to register to be a speaker, but also to take full advantage of the program by inviting speakers to address groups to which they belong. With topics ranging from World War II, exercise and nutrition, current events, film, physics, and even cannibalism, Mason Speakers has more than 150 experts on countless fascinating subjects. Check out its web site at communityrelations.gmu.edu/speakersbureau, or call 703-993-8761 and a staff member will help you find the right speaker for your event.
Mason’s Center for Global Education will sponsor two exciting spring break tours from March 9–18, 2007, and both are open to alumni. Option one is a Brazil Eco-Tour that incorporates beautiful Rio de Janeiro, Copacabana Beach, and a stay at Eco Park in the Amazon jungle. Option two sends participants to Russia, where they can experience and absorb the history and culture of St. Petersburg and Moscow. For more information, visit globaled.gmu.edu, e-mail [email protected], or call 703-993-2154.
Tim Stoiche found a woman’s Mason class ring in the bathtub drain of his home in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and called the Alumni Affairs Office to try and locate the owner. Unfortunately, the inscription inside the ring did not turn up in the alumni database. If you know Tina L. Baughman from the class of 1989, please ask her to call Stoiche at 260-436-8495.
Also, another lost ring was sent to the Alumni Affairs Office and is still unclaimed. This ring, found in the Virginia Beach area, is inscribed with the name Eric Sewell and BS 2002. Call 703-993-8696 to claim.
