Helen Montague Prichard Foster, B.A. English '69, received her M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia and is a self-employed psychiatrist in Richmond, Va., as well as the president of the Psychiatric Society of Virginia.

Helen Gleason White, B.A. English '69, has been accepted as a member of the descendants of the Mayflower Society, Virginia Chapter, and serves as chaplain for the Colonel John Washington Chapter of the D.C. D.A.R.

1970s

Patrick Alexander, B.A. Economics '72, is director of capital support and planned giving for Oklahoma City University and managing partner of the law firm of Neimeyer Alexander Austin Phillips, PC. He is married to Linda Alexander, B.A. Philosophy '75.

Howell Crawford Sasser Sr., M.A. History '72, retired from the U.S. Army at the rank of colonel after a 30-year military career.

Susan B. Flohr, B.A. Psychology '75, joined the law firm of Blank Rome Comisky and McCauley LLP as a partner in the intellectual property department in its Washington, D.C., office.

Jim McCarthy, B.S. Public Administration '75, is vice president of Haskell Aviation Developers and earned the designation of certified professional services marketer.

Kevin W. Bowyer, B.S. Economics '76, was appointed the Schubmehl-Prein Professor and chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Notre Dame.

Carren Louise Bersch, B.A. English '79 and M.A. English '82, lives in Nokomis, Fla., and is working on the fourth in a series of as yet unpublished funny murder mysteries and a soon-to-be syndicated newspaper column.

1980s

Robbie Miller Kaplan, B.A. English '81, has written eight books. His newest book, How to Say It in Your Job Search, was published by Prentice Hall Press as part of its "How to Say It" series. Kaplan's books all deal with resumes, cover letters, careers, and the job search.

Aylin N. Cankardes, B.S. Public Administration '82, formed her own corporate finance company. She has two daughters, three-year-old Alexa and one-year-old Nicole Alana.

Peyton Parrish Jones, M.P.A. '82, received the Sunrise Optimist Club award for Police Department Employee of the Year on November 13, 2001.

Linda J. McElroy, B.A. Psychology '82, completed a master's in divinity at Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, Pa., in May 2001. She was ordained on July 14, 2001, and installed as pastor at Christ Lutheran Church in Johnstown, Pa., on September 15, 2001.

Paula R. Yocom, B.A. Psychology '82 and M.Ed. Counseling '88, had her first book, Pathways through My Heart, published in 2001. It is available online at www.cantwellscorner.com.

William (Bunky) Dukes, B.S. Economics '83, lives in Naples, Fla., and works for Allen Systems Group Inc. as director of compensation and benefits. He is an avid golfer and, when time permits, still plays volleyball on the beach.

Elizabeth D. Murphy, M.A. Psychology '83, received a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from the University of Maryland in December 2001.

C. James Williams III, B.S. Public Administration '83 and J.D. '87, is certified as a trial advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.

Noelle Madison Dallas, B.S. Biology '84, was a torchbearer for the 2002 Winter Olympics, carrying the Olympic torch in the greater Philadelphia area in December 2001.

Rita Reed, M.P.A. '84, was chosen to manage the budget for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Frank Forman, Ph.D. Economics '85, has published two discographies. The first (with Kenzu Amah of Tokyo) lists the recordings of Russian conductor, Evgeny Mravinsky; the second is acoustically recorded sets of chamber music and was published in three parts in the Journal of the Association for Recorded Sound Collections.

Ayleen A. Cunningham-Sherrill, B.A. Spanish '86, and Jeffrey L. Sherrill, '85, announce the birth of their son, Nicholas Andrew, on May 18, 2001. Nicholas joins brothers, Bobby and Christopher, and sisters, Ashleigh and Melanie. Ayleen teaches in the Prince William (Va.) County Schools and has been accepted into George Mason's graduate program in education leadership.

John Potock, B.A. English '86, and Susan (Snyder) Potock, B.S. Elementary Education '90, were married in September 1999. Their daughter, Molly Elizabeth, was born on June 22, 2001.

Mary Ann Rapp, B.S. Psychology '86 and M.A.I.S. in Religious Education '88, has earned a counseling degree and provides counseling and crisis intervention services for combat veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder at the Washington area Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

James O. Weakley III, B.A. History '86 and M.A. History '01, is a historic interpreter at Mount Vernon and an adjunct faculty member at Germanna Community College in Fredericksburg, Va.

Gordon A. Janis, B.A. International Studies '87, is engaged to Amy Blauman and plans an August 2002 wedding. He is pursuing a master's degree in school counseling at George Washington University.

Catherine DeCastro Ferrick, B.A. English '88 and M.A. English '96, and husband, Tom, announce the birth of their second daughter, Campbell Lane, in August 2001. The Ferrick's oldest daughter is Siena Malone, who is three years old.

Sharon Swainson, B.A. English '88, is the chief communications officer and spokesperson for the new Philadelphia Phillies ballpark, which will open in April 2004.

Omar H. Altalib, B.A. Sociology '89, and his wife, Nina J. Abdullah, B.A. Psychology '95, live in Ohio where Nina is a counselor at the University of Akron and a practicum student in the Clinic for Child Study and Family Therapy. In September 2001, Omar organized a colloquium on terrorism at Ashland University and gave a talk on Islam, Muslims, and terrorists.

Greg Bicouvaris, B.A. Sociology '89, works as an announcer for NNPS TV 47, the Newport News Public Schools television station. He also freelances for the networks and other TV and radio jobs.

Amy Mathis, B.A. Latin American Studies '89, works as a case manager and home-based services provider for Valencia Counseling Services Inc. in Los Lunas, N. Mex. She also is working on a master's in social work, which she expects to complete in December 2003.

Victor Clark Mullins, B.A. Communication '89, has been appointed assistant dean for academic affairs at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business, New York University.

Kevin Antler, B.A. Speech Communication '90, is director for client services at Drake Beam Morin's greater Washington area consulting practice and lives in Ashburn, Va., with his wife and three children.

Robert C. Kerstann, B.A. Government and Politics '91, will marry Tammy Dibble in Marietta, Ga., on May 11, 2002.

Chris Kormis, M.A. Professional Writing and Editing '91, was promoted to executive director of University Relations at George Washington University.

Pauline (Robertson) Lanciotti, B.A. History '91, announces the birth of her second child, Maria Rose, on May 17, 2001.

Anne Palermo O'Malley, B.S. Public Administration '91, announces the birth of her third daughter, Kathleen Anne, on October 5, 2001. Kathleen's older sisters are Meghan, age three and a half, and Bridget, age two.

Laurel Williams (Kellum), B.A. Government and Politics '91, passed the Florida Bar examination in July 2001 and was admitted to the Florida Bar in November 2001.

Scott L. Hansen, B.S. Biology '92, is a plastic and reconstructive surgery fellow at the University of California-San Francisco. He and his wife have one child and another on the way.

Chris Helein, B.A. Speech Communication '92, is president of CH Communications, a public relations firm he started in February 2001.

Paul Reber, M.A. Hsistory '92, is president of Old Salem Inc., a nonprofit organization that oversees three museums and one gallery in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Barbara Jo (Hornback) Scott, B.A. English '92, and her husband, Kevin, had a second son, Spencer Thomas, born in December 2000. He joins big brother, Mason Charles. The family lives in California but hopes to return to Virginia soon.

Matthew Abel, B.S. Biology '93, graduated from a residency program in the Pediatrics Department at the Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, N.J. He and his wife live in New Milford, Conn., where he is in private practice at Candlewood Valley Pediatrics.

Alison (Geiger) Carroll, B.A. Speech Communication '93, was married in August 1998 after returning from the Peace Corps where she worked from 1994­97 as an English teacher.

Gary Dollarhite, B.A. Communication '93, married Joan Sutton on May 27, 2001. Gary is a private investigator in Northern Virginia.

Julie Boone Elliott, B.A. Government and Politics '93, married Heath Elliott on July 7, 2001. They took a two-week honeymoon to Ireland and live in Claremont, Calif., where Julie is associate director for career planning and resources at Scripps College.

Chris Evans, B.A. Psychology '93, and Amy (Weiss) Evans, B.A. Speech Communication '94, announce the birth of their first child, Mason Shaye, named in honor of the place where the couple met.

Brian Gagne, B.A. Government and Politics '93, earned a J.D., cum laude, from Syracuse University in May 2001 and works at the Court of Appeals of Virginia.

Thom Shepherd, B.A. Speech Communication '93, wrote "Riding with Private Malone," a country western song recorded by David Ball, which was in the top 20 on the Billboard chart last fall. Shepherd, who appears in the music video as Private Malone, lives in Nashville with his wife, Misty, and their daughter, Cody.

Stephanie Culp, B.A. Communication '94, married Bradley P. Burch on October 6, 2001, in Vienna, Va.

Steven Dishner, B.A. Economics '94, married Elizabeth Shepard in May 2001.

H. Nicole Frye-Myers, B.A. Psychology '94, married Jim Myers on August 4, 2001, and is an assistant professor at the College of Notre Dame and a doctoral student in special education at George Mason.

Deborah S. Garrett, B.A. Government and Politics '94, received an M.A. in Government from Johns Hopkins University in May 2001 and is engaged to John D. Wing, B.A. Psychology '94.

Elyse Leeds, B.A. English '94, is attending Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Business in Glendale, Ariz.

Philip P. Noftsinger, B.A. History '94, is controller for Energy Solutions Plus Inc. in Forest, Va., and his wife, Maureen Horner Noftsinger, B.S. Psychology '94, earned a D.V.M. degree from Virginia Tech and is an emergency room doctor at Emergency Veterinary Services of Roanoke.

Jennifer (Rosenburg) Ochsenfeld, B.A. Sociology '94, is a sixth-grade social studies teacher and lives on the east end of Long Island's North Shore. She married Joe Ochsenfeld in 2000.

Maja Immer Roberts, B.A. English '94, has been promoted to director of the Writing Department at Vance International.
