1970s
Susan C. Collier, B.S. Physical Education and Health '75,
is the assistant tax manager for Tyco International (US) Inc. and lives in Boca
Raton, Fla.
Martin H. Johnson, B.S. Physical Education '76, became captain
of the National Championship Civilian Team at the NRA Bianchi Cup in May 2001
and was inducted into the Re/Max International Hall of Fame in February 2002.
Margaret Babcock, M.Ed. Reading '77, is a guidance counselor
at Birdneck Elementary School in Virginia Beach, Va.
Joan (Manley) Webb, M.Ed. Reading '78, taught in the Department
of Defense Panama schools, cruised the Caribbean and South Pacific for three years,
taught in Guam, and now is in Charleston, S.C., teaching math at Trident Technical
College.
Harlan A. "Lanny" Millette, M.Ed. Guidance and Counseling
'79, is executive director of Camp Hebron in Halifax, Pa. He was elected president
of the mid-Atlantic section of Christian Camping International December 2000 for
a two-year term.
1980s
Sharon A. Gay, M.Ed. Reading '80, completed Rank 1 as a school
media specialist but is taking time off to be with her family.
Elizabeth R. Norman, M.Ed. Elementary Education '81, earned
an M.A. from Regent University in 1988 and a Doctor of Strategic Leadership degree
in 2001.
Phil Catania, M.Ed. Administration and Supervision '84, was
awarded the Washington Post's Distinguished Educational Leadership Award
in November 2001. He is principal of Mount Rainier Elementary School, which was
honored as one of eight National Schools of Character by the Washington-based
Character Education Partnership.
David A. Gaskins, B.S. Physical Education '85, was promoted
to associate director for programs in the Department of Recreational Services
at East Carolina University.
Janice Hagan, M.Ed. Secondary Education '85, retired from
the Fairfax County Public Schools and volunteers as first vice president of the
Woman's Club of Springfield, president of Woodside Manor Woman's Club in Burke,
Va., and a computer coach for the JCA SeniorNet at the Springfield Mall.
Patricia Zissios, M.Ed. Administration and Supervision '87
and Ph.D. '94, is principal of Crestwood Elementary School and a recipient of
the 2001 Northern Virginia Leadership Award in Public Service.
Rachel (Lee) Rafuse, B.S. Early Childhood Education '89, is
a librarian and researcher at Lawler, Matusky and Skelly Engineers in Pearl River,
N.Y. Her husband, Ethan S. Rafuse, B.A. History '91 and M.A.
History '93, is an assistant professor of history at the U.S. Military Academy
at West Point.
Ann B. Welch, M.Ed. Special Education '89, has joined the
Education Department at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Va., as an assistant
professor.
1990s
Jeffrey T. Osborne, B.S. Early Education '90, has a daughter,
Tess, in first grade. Tess wears her George Mason sweatshirt proudly and says
she will go to Mason someday - even for grad school!
Cathy David, M.Ed. '91, received the Washington Post's 2001
Distinguished Educational Leadership Award.
Linda Trew Bruhn, B.S. Health Education '93, is working on
a doctorate in clinical psychology at Argosy University. She lives with her husband
and five children in Hawaii.
Doug Hicks, B.S. Physical Education '94, is the senior director
of communications for the DC United professional soccer team.
Christy T. (Denslow) Tyner, M.Ed. Curriculum and Instruction
'96, is living in Tucson, Ariz., and teaching reading at Sylvan Learning Center.
Mark Merrell, M.Ed. Leadership '99, is principal at James
Madison High School in Vienna, Va., the same high school from which he graduated
in 1979.
