Although half of the 10 Mason basketball players who took the court in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament championship game had enjoyed the experience of going to the NCAA Final Four, none of them had ever won a CAA title. That changed against the College of William and Mary as the Patriots won their fourth conference title and their third under head coach Jim Larranaga, beating the Tribe, 68-59. Senior Folarin Campbell was chosen CAA Tournament Most Valuable Player, and the win earned the Patriots a bid in the NCAA Tournament. Their appearance ended in the first round when the 12th-seeded Patriots lost to Notre Dame, 68-50.
