Art and Visual Technology student Jill Kelly chose to depict a tape measure in her Studio Fundamentals outdoor sculpture project because she is quilter and a seamstress. The assignment was to use a favorite item that can fit into the palm of one’s hand as a model for a large sculpture and display the piece in an optimum spot on campus. It is shown here in a planter outside the Science and Technology buildings. Students on their way to class could be seen measuring themselves against the accurate though larger-than-life facsimile. This is Kelly’s first sculpture.
