Mason’s Virginia 21 chapter, a student organization that works to advocate for the rights of students on Virginia’s college campuses on state and local levels, won the 2008 Voice of a Generation Award. Virginia 21 has chapters at nearly every college campus in Virginia, including community colleges. This extremely prestigious award reflects the strong passion and desire of Mason students to positively affect the world in which they live.
Among its other accomplishments, Mason’s Virginia 21 chapter has demonstrated outstanding grassroots outreach and advocacy on behalf of Mason; been a fixture in the General Assembly; had members take time out of their busy schedules to lobby legislators on several important initiatives; thrived on campus, doubling the size of the chapter in the past year; hosted the first-ever Get Out the Vote Day where students talked to their peers about important issues; and handed out information on the candidates in their districts.
