Mason Law Student Donates Money for Classmates

An anonymous first-year student at George Mason University’s School of Law made a $19,200 donation to help the 100 neediest Mason students cover the $192 tuition increase set to be implemented next semester.

“ It was clear that there were some students that this [fee increase] would be a great hardship to,” the anonymous donor told the Washington Post. “Many of them are just starting out in life. They don’t have much money.... It seemed that maybe they could use the help.”

As of December 12, news of this generous gift had inspired 135 George Mason alumni to pledge an additional $18,283 to the cause, enough to cover another 95 students’ fees for the upcoming semester.

“ It’s stirred giving,” says Anne Richard, assistant dean and director of admissions at the law school. “It’s brought a lot of goodwill.”
