Letter from the President

The Mason Way

Yes, we are special.

We are special not only because of the Final Four run last year, but also because of Mason’s unique blend of dynamic growth and dramatic impact.

We are moving forward and pushing the boundaries of what a great university can be. This is the Mason Way—not a step-by-step approach but simultaneous growth in multiple directions. The evidence can be found in the ongoing construction projects on the Fairfax, Prince William, and Arlington Campuses, which will help build our programs in the sciences, the arts, law, public policy, and engineering. We will add more than two and a half million square feet of space by 2009. What is special is that with our physical growth, we are also growing with quality programs and quality students.

Alumni can, and have, contributed to the Mason Way with advice and involvement with the deans of the schools and, more important, the students. In the classroom, we are mentors, judges, supporters, and advisors. Alumni are involved in attracting quality students, enhancing the classroom experience, and most critically mentoring students.

Homecoming is just around the corner and is an excellent opportunity for you to come back to campus and see the success generated by the Mason Way. Join me at the Alumni Association tent at Homecoming on Saturday, February 17. For more information, go to www.gmu.edu/homecoming.
