Construction

Construction cranes are becoming a familiar part of the Mason landscape. Not only are these structures an integral part of the building process, they provide an excellent bird’s-eye view of the campus. At least that’s what university photographer Nicolas Tan, BA Art and Visual technology ’05, figured. Tan bravely scaled one of the cranes this fall to capture the view.

Hardball

Chris Matthews, host of Hardball, queries actor and director Robert De Niro and actor Matt Damon about their new movie, The Good Shepherd. The Hardball crew came to Mason in December as part of the Hardball College Tour and filmed the episode in the Center for the Arts Concert Hall. The show aired on MSNBC.

Special Delivery

The College of Health and Human Services hosted a "baby shower" in November to celebrate the arrival of SimBaby, a $30,000 "patient" that joins three full-sized, computer-controlled human simulators in the Toups Nursing Clinical Simulation Laboratories. The SimBaby was purchased with private donations to the Toups Lab Fund at the George Mason University Foundation.

A Banner Year

Above: Original banners from last year’s National Collegiate Athletic Association Basketball Tournament, which were on display in Indianapolis last spring when Mason made it to the Final Four, were placed around Mason’s campus prior to the regular-season opener on November 18 against Wichita State. A number of banners were given out to the first fans to arrive at the game.

Left: Spirits were high as the official Final Four banner was raised to the rafters in the Patriot Center during the men's basketball home opener.
