Doc Nix gets immortalized in plastic

Patriot Pep Band director Michael Nickens, better known as “Doc Nix,” has become a popular figure, literally. Nickens’s likeness was captured in a bobble head doll for a fund-raising event last spring for the marching band at Thomas Edison High School in Alexandria, Virginia. Nickens has arranged music for the band for the past five years.

The lively band leader says it’s his mission to bring people together to celebrate who they are. “I can’t be in all places at once, so we’re making an army of bobble heads to spread fun and happiness,” says Nickens. “If anything, it’s kind of a relief having an army to help me do my job.”
