A traditional dragon dance was one of the highlights of the opening ceremony for the 2008 Olympic Landscape Sculpture International Exhibition. Mason was the only university in the world to be chosen as an official host site for the exhibition, which ran through December 7.
A delegation from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, including Ambassador Wenzhong Zhou, and members of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Committee attended the ceremony.
The Beijing Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games invited artists from around the world to submit sculpture designs depicting themes of the Olympic Games. An international panel of judges chose 110 sculptures from more than 2,400 entries submitted from 90 countries.
