The Alumni Association has initiated a series of events geared toward families. Upcoming events include a Patriots Basketball Game Watch Party at Hard Times Café on March 1, a scavenger hunt, and a day of fun at a local park. Look for these events and others to be posted on the alumni web site (www.gmu.edu/alumni) under “Activities & Events.”
Alumni are invited to a reception and performance at the Center for the Arts on May 3. The reception will be held prior to the 8 p.m. performance of Diavolo, an innovative dance company composed of dancers, gymnasts, and actors. Please RSVP for the reception to chapter president Deborah Kalunian at [email protected]. Discounted tickets are available from Tickets.com, using discount code “CHHS.”
Each year Mason’s Text and Community Program conducts a semester-long project. For spring 2008, the text will be The Devil’s Highway: A True Story by Luis Alberto Urrea. This book offers a vivid, powerful examination of U.S. and Mexican border and immigration policy and its devastating effects on one group of Mexican immigrants. In addition to a reading featuring Urrea, other events on campus include a film series, panels organized by the Democracy Project, and a brown-bag lunch series arranged by the Mason Project on Immigration. The English Department Alumni Chapter invites all alumni to read the book and take part in the program. A special alumni event will be planned around the author’s appearance on Wednesday, April 9.
