Michael Alexander, M.D., M.S. Biology '69, was promoted to clinical professor of pediatrics and physical medicine at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pa.

1970s

Charles C. Ballenger, B.A. History '71, is a certified travel counselor with Maritz Internet Travel and has received the top certification of the travel industry.

Luis E. Sanz, M.D., B.S. Biology '72, was promoted to vice chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Georgetown University School of Medicine.

Michael J. Cobb, B.A. Sociology '74, is a lecturer in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department at Alfred State College and was the recipient of the Significant Years of Service Award, which was presented to him by the Allegany ARC (Association of Retarded Citizens).

William Homer, Jr., B.A. History '75, is vice president of U.S. field sales for the Consumer Markets Division of FUJI Photo Film USA, Elmsford, N.Y.

Jim McCarthy, B.A. Public Administration '75, has been named manager of business development in The Haskell Company's Education Division. The Haskell Company is a design and construction firm based in Jacksonville, Fla.

William F. Hunt, B.A. American Studies '76, earned an M.A. in human resource management from George Washington University in January 1998.

Bartholomew M. Lopresti, M.D., B.S. Biology '77, graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1981. He lives in Smithfield, Va., with his wife, Susan, and their three children: Mark, age 16, Ben, age 14, and Margaret, age 11.

Emilio Bianchi, B.A. Sociology '79, has been promoted to lieutenant colonel in the Active Army Reserves. He is employed with Dynetics, Inc., of Huntsville, Ala., as a senior logistics analyst.

1980s

Christel Vilogron, B.A. International Studies '81, has been appointed to the President's Export Council Subcommittee on Export Administration. She was notified of her one-year appointment in a congratulatory letter from William M. Daley, secretary of commerce, Washington, D.C. Christel is manager for corporate import/export compliance for Allergan, Inc., of Irvine, Calif.

Carol Gibson, M.A. English '82, has a new job in the Office of National Drug Control Policy, Executive Office of the President, Washington, D.C.

Steve Gladis, M.A. English '84 and Ph.D. Education '95, is director of the University of Virginia's Northern Virginia Center and was appointed as chairman of the board of trustees for the new Washington Mathematics Science Technology Public Charter High School in Washington, D.C.

Helen E. Prien, B.F.A. Theater '85, graduated with a Ph.D. in speech (theater) from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in May 1998. Helen is employed by LockHaven University (Pa.) as assistant professor of speech and theater.

Catherine (Christos) Rudd, B.S. Biology '85, received her M.B.A. in May 1998 from Shenandoah University and is starting her own computer consulting company. She has been married for 10 years and has two daughters, ages seven and two.

Charles M. Ruchelman, B.S. Public Administration '86, earned a J.D. from Syracuse University and married Cynthia Davis. They have three children and live in Silver Spring, Md.

Margaret L. D'Urso, M.A. Psychology '87, is a December 1998 graduate of Capital University of Integrated Medicine in Washington, D.C., where she earned a doctor of integrated medicine degree. In August 1998, she received a doctor of naturopathy degree from the International University of the International Society of Naturopathy.

Lawrence J. McQuillan, M.A. Economics '87 and Ph.D. Economics '91, joined the Hoover Institution as a research fellow in June 1998. Lawrence lives in Sunnyvale, Calif., and works at the Hoover Institution of Stanford University.

Loretta W. Prencipe, B.A. Russian Studies '87 and J.D. '95, is a columnist for IT Recruiter, a monthly information technology publication for the Washington, D.C., area. She is also a contributing writer on legal and management issues for Network World, a weekly newsmagazine for computer professionals.

Ken Budd, B.A. English '88 and M.A. English '97, was named a senior editor of Modern Maturity after five years as editor of Common Ground Magazine.

Gayle Marks Holtzman, B.A. Economics '88, has a new baby, Jonathan Scott Holtzman, born April 2, 1998.

Barbara Hulsing, B.S. Psychology '88, is in her second year of graduate school, working toward a master of divinity degree, and is interim pastor of First Baptist Church of East Aurora, N.Y.

Maritta (Marti) Acker, B.A. Theater '89, has toured with "Sesame Street Live!" and "Disney's World On Ice-Beauty and the Beast" as a wardrobe staff member. She is currently the make-up artist and is in charge of headpieces and headwear for Cirque du Soleil's first permanent production, Mystere, currently running at the Treasure Island Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

Alice Martin Atalla, B.A. Speech Communication '89, has been promoted to marketing communications manager for INOVA Fairfax Hospital. Daniel S. Brewster, B.A. International Studies '89 and B.A. Economics '90, is pursuing an M.B.A. at Indiana University and expects to graduate in the spring of 2000.

Juan Carlos Fierro, B.A. Government and Politics '89, is a financial advisor with Morgan Stanley Dean Witter in Washington, D.C.

Kevin Love, B.A. Economics '89, works for RE/MAX Properties and was included as a lifetime member of the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors listing of top producers.

1990s

Tommy Moorcones, B.A. Public Administration '90, married Elizabeth Melnick of Philadelphia, Pa. He owns an insurance agency, The Marshall Insurance Agency, Inc., in Marshall, Va.

Craig Delaney, B.A. International Studies '91, earned an accounting certificate at the University of Virginia and passed the CPA exam. He is a senior accountant with SAIC in Falls Church, Va., and lives with his wife, Camilla Ramlal, in Ashburn, Va.

Laurel E. Kellum, B.A. Government and Politics '91, is a third-year law student at Duquesne University and is assigned as a first lieutenant with a military intelligence linguist unit in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Mary Susan (Ursitti) Soria, B.A. Psychology '91, is a prevention counselor for the City of Alexandria and has a 13-year-old son, who she hopes will attend George Mason University in the future.

Reginald Bowser, B.S. Public Administration '92, earned an M.B.A. from The Darden School at the University of Virginia on May 17, 1998. John T. Luecke, B.A. International Studies '92, married Karen Hofer on June 14, 1997, and their first child, Julianna Jeanette, was born on June 25, 1998.

Kate McGrath, B.A. Government and Politics '92, a claims representative for State Farm Insurance Company in Charlottesville, Va., is the house corporation board president of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority chapter at the University of Virginia.

Carol Miklos, B.A. English '92 and B.A. Art Studio '95, works for Hospice of Northern Virginia in the Compliance and Performance Improvement Department.

Jason Reis, B.A. Economics '93, is an I/T analyst with SAIC in McLean, Va., and an ESL tutor and volunteer with the Northern Virginia Literacy Council. He also has just completed intense language training in Mandarin Chinese.

Stacey (Hulburt) Babish, B.S. Public Administration '94, married in August 1997 and earned an M.Ed. in special education. Stacey works for Loudoun County (Va.) Public Schools as an eighth-grade special education teacher.

Heather Buckman, B.A. Government and Politics '94, has opened her own business, You Send Me, a custom gift basket and specialty gifts business.

Lorraine Lester, B.A. Psychology '94, graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a master of social work degree and is coauthoring a social work advocacy textbook for publication with Nelson-Hall in 1999. She serves on the Stand for Children 2000 Committee and coauthored "Entitlement Policies and Programs: Internet Access for Social Work Professionals and Students in the Commonweath of Virginia."

Frances Lopez, B.A. International Affairs '94, completed two years of Peace Corps service in Micronesia on the island of Palau, where she lived with a local family and worked in a village elementary school.

Kathleen (Gelven) Raine, B.F.A. Dance '94, has moved into a new house with her husband, Dudley Raine, III, and son, Dudley Allen Raine, IV, born in October 1996. Kathleen is a member of the Virginia Academy of Fencing.

Mary Taylor, B.A. International Studies '94, moved from Northern Virginia to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1997 to work for VISA USA as an account manager.

Allison Walcroft, B.A. English '94, and David McElfresh, B.S. Chemistry '94, were married on June 6, 1998. They live in Pittsburgh, Pa., where David is working on his doctoral degree in chemistry, and Allison is working in childcare.

Mary Elizabeth May, B.A. History '95, earned a master of public health degree at George Washington University in September 1996.

John King Oast, Jr., B.A. International Studies '95, married in 1997 and is employed by the Colonial Willamsburg Foundation as a historical interpreter.

Chadra Pittman, B.A. Anthropology '95, is a public educator and media coordinator and has published a first article in Transforming Anthropology, the journal of the Association of Black Anthropologists. The article, "If Bona Could Speak," was published in vol. 7, no. 1.

Jeannelle Blanchard, B.A. Speech Communication and Spanish '96, earned an M.A. in international studies at the University of Miami. She works as an associate at Hagler Bailly, where she assists in the development of the environmentally sustainable tourism practice.

Carrie Lee Boutivas, B.A. History '96, received a certificate from Minnesota Air Traffic Control Training Center in December 1997, is employed by the Federal Aviation Administration, and is ambassador to Minnesota Air Traffic Control Training Center.

Michelle Hankins, B.A. Government and Politics '96, works for SIGNAL Magazine as news editor and is the president of the Broadside Alumni Association, George Mason's new alumni group formed to promote and support journalism at the university.

Stephen Hoyle, M.A. English '96, is an adjunct instructor of English as a second language at Northern Virginia Community College.

Jos� Maurtua, M.A. Music '96, was in Europe last year to attend the summer composition at the Prague Academy of Music. Jos� has also been in Peru as a conductor for the second International Vocal Competition, and he was awarded a university fellowship at Florida State University, where he is now employed as a music instructor.

Scott Shingler, B.S. Biology '96, won his second Northern Virginia Amateur golf tournament in August 1997 and turned pro. He spent last winter (1997-98) in Orlando, Fla., playing on the Tommy Armour professional golf tour. His brother, Sean �Shingo� Shingler, B.A. Geology '97, is employed by Phi Sigma Kappa International Fraternity Headquarters as director of member recruitment. He was recently awarded the fourth degree medallion for more than one year of volunteer service to the fraternity. He is also active in the community, assisting in coaching a little league baseball team in Indianapolis, Ind.

Sheryl (Lindquist) Brancaleoni, B.A. Foreign Languages '97, married Anthony Brancaleoni on June 20, 1998, and honeymooned in Europe. She has a new career as an insurance underwriter for Boat/U.S. in Alexandria, Va.

Dawn Hynes, B.S. Psychology '97, works for the Prince William County Government as an office assistant/case manager with the Criminal Justice Services Department and as a child supervisor/case worker with the Juvenile Detention Center. Both positions keep Dawn busy, but she eventually hopes to return to Mason for a master's degree so that she can become a counselor.

Angela Joy Spenner, B.S. Psychology '97, gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, Antonis Luciano Rodriguez, on June 6, 1998. She works as a sales assistant at Pentagon Federal Insurance Services Corporation.

Maria Sund, B.A. International Studies '97, is enrolled in a master's program at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.

Joseph T. Hetrick, B.A. English '98, has published his second book, Chris Von der Ahe and the St. Louis Browns, an American sports history from Scarecrow Press.

Kirk Johnson, Ph.D. Public Policy '98, was named a policy analyst at The Heritage Foundation in August 1998.
