A Time for Inspiration, Reflection, and Looking Ahead

By Mason Spirit contributor on April 1, 2010

In April, the George Mason University Alumni Association honored the 2010 alumni award recipients at the Celebration of Distinction. This annual ceremony has evolved into a hallmark event for the university at large, and a look at the awardees reveals why. The work of our alumni in leadership, research, volunteerism, entrepreneurship, and leading-edge thinking helps place all Mason alumni in high regard as the Mason name has become so widely recognized and respected. I encourage you to read about this year’s award recipients at alumni.gmu.edu. I am certain you will be inspired.

As I finish my term as president of the Alumni Association, I reflect back on my early involvement. It was 2000, and I was helping establish an alumni chapter for WGMU Radio, an experience that led to my membership on the association’s board of directors. I was immediately struck by all the energy and excitement for Mason, and the prospect of being part of such a large and positive group captured my imagination and my heart.

I would not trade a single moment of the past 10 years of my affiliation with the finest alumni association in the nation. I thank you for allowing me the great honor of serving as your president.

I know my experience is not unique. I see even more excitement in Mason today than what inspired me back then. Perhaps that is what makes us so special—we keep getting better! We have so much to look forward to as Mason alumni. I urge each of you to be a part of it.

Ted Arnn
President,
George Mason University Alumni Association
