Hey Mason alum, if you haven’t been on the Fairfax Campus, say, since Bush II was still in his first term in office, then you may want to bring along a map next time you pay your old stumping grounds a visit.

The campus has nearly twice the buildings it had when I last took classes here in 2003 – and more are on the way.

Here are just a few of the new buildings that rose up over the last few years.

Just announced: Ground is about to be broken on a new Science and Tech building that will link Science and Tech I and II. Work on the 50,000-square-foot building, according to a university news story, will kick off in February, and will include space for “20 biology, geology and environmental science and policy teaching labs.” Also in the works are renovations for Science and Tech I and II.

“The unique design of the building, in addition to a geology garden and outdoor amphitheater, will provide state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities both inside and outside the classroom,” Vikas Chandhoke, dean of the College of Science, was quoted as saying. “This is going to be a very exciting project.”

And it doesn’t end there. A building for university administration called University Hall will be ready next spring. There also plans to expand the school’s main library and its library at the Johnson Center as well as renovate and expand a slew of other buildings. See here for what’s on the way.
