GBAY Returns: You Too Can Have Your Name in Deli Meats!

This past GBAY bidder got his own smoothie!

Sotheby’s may have a Picasso or Rembrandt for sale, but what about the chance to have you name immortalized in food stuffs? Returning for its second year on March 3, Mason’s student-run GBAY auction lets bidders battle it out for everything from a book autographed by a Jersey Shore star to having a sandwich or smoothie at Mason named after you.

Last year, the auction raked in about $10,500 for student scholarships. Items and experiences up for bid included a chance to shoot the T-shirt gun at a Mason basketball game, lunch with men’s basketball coach Jim Larranaga, airline tickets, and, of course, lending your name to a sandwich at La Patisserie, which two bidders won at $280 a piece.

“It was amazingly successful,” says Brittany Burkhart, a junior and one of the organizers of the event. “And this year, we want to raise even more!”

Though organizers are still soliciting donations for the auction, which will take place in the Johnson Center atrium beginning at 6 p.m., Burkhart was able to give a few hints at what will be up for bid. Items include hotel stays, more sandwich-naming rights, and an autographed copy of Snooki’s book (yes, apparently there is one).

“I just contacted her manager,” Burkhart says of securing the reality show phenom’s donation. “We are definitely excited about having that.”

Burkhart says organizers will be accepting donations up until the day of the auction. And while they’ll accept “just about anything,” they are very interested in “experience” donations, such as lunch with a prominent university official or a day at work with someone with a fun career.
