As more buildings go up, more accolades roll in.

Kicking off Mason’s recent awards bonanza was the Art and Design building, which was given the 2010 Honor Award for Design Excellence by the Fairfax County Exceptional Design Awards Program. Completed in 2009, the state-of-the-art facility includes studio space, galleries, computer classrooms, faculty offices, and general education classrooms.

In October, Masonvale, an affordable housing community for faculty, staff, and graduate students that opened in 2009, was a Builder magazine Choice Awards winner for Best Affordable Housing Project. The magazine said the development offered a cost-effective alternative to the long commutes some residents had experienced prior to moving to the Fairfax Campus community.

Finally, in December, Mid-Atlantic Construction magazine named the Mason Inn Conference Center and Hotel its Multifamily Residential/Hospitality Project of the year. In addition, the hotel, which is a LEED-certified Gold building, was recognized in the category of Outstanding Designs: Specialized Facilities by American School & University magazine’s 2010 Architectural Portfolio Award program. The 148-room hotel opened in July 2010.
