As a professional opera singer, William Reeder performed more than 40 leading tenor roles in 15 major opera houses throughout Europe. When he was ready to step out of the spotlight, he took on what would become his most important role: preparing the next generation of artists. After leading such arts organizations as the Levine School of Music and St. Louis Conservatory of Music, Reeder came to Mason to become dean of the newly formed College of Visual and Performing Arts. In the 14 years under his leadership, the college has grown in size and reputation. Reeder stepped down as dean in May but will continue to teach as a member of the Arts Management faculty.
