1970s

Sandra Lewis Whittington, B.A. History '74, retired from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in December 1997 and is living in Douglasville, Ga.

Kevin W. Bowyer, B.S. Economics '76, is a professor of computer science and engineering at the University of South Florida in Tampa and has been elected a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers for 1998.

Bobbie (Beidleman) Coleman, B.A. Sociology '76, lives in South Dakota with her husband, John, and seven-year-old son, Robby. She works part time for Norwest Student Loan Corporation and has her own career consulting practice.

Steven D. King, B.A. Geography '79, earned a J.D. degree from William & Mary Law School in 1983 and is an attorney in private practice and appointed assistant city attorney for Fallon, Nev.

1980s

Steve Mee, B.S. Chemistry '81 and M.S. Chemistry '90, works for the National Enforcement Investigation Center of the EPA and has a son, Jimmy, who lives with him half time.

Mark T. Kane, B.S. Public Administration '83, is the fire battalion chief in Fairfax County's Fire and Rescue Department.

Gregory G. Paspatis, B.A. History '83, has been elected to the Alexandria Sportsman's Club Board of Directors and is serving as president of the T.C. Williams High School Football Alumni Association.

Edward L. Van Oeveren, B.S. Biology '83, received a master of public health degree from Johns Hopkins University on May 21, 1998.

Paul B. Donovan, B.S. Economics '84, lives in Denver, Colo., with his wife and two children. He is a business consultant for small high-tech companies and an M.B.A. student at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs.

Fernand "Fuji" Daussin, B.A. English '85 and Environ-mental Management Certification '92, has been named staff scientist for Dynamac Corporation and lives in Cary, N.C., with his wife, Sandra Tracy Daussin, and their two children.

Denise Fleenor-Spenik, B.A. Art Studio '85, is a first-grade teacher in Phoenix, Ariz., and has earned her M.A. in education from Chapman University. She is also the proud mother of a son, Kyle Austin Spenik.

Phillip Lee Kesler, B.A. International Studies '86, received a master of divinity degree in Christian education from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary on May 22, 1998.

Alan T. Seigel, B.A. Psychology '86, is a systems engineer for Bell Atlantic and married Karen Altman in June 1996.

Scott Smith, B.A. English '86, is appearing in the X-Files movie and the television show "Party of Five." He also has directed the play New York Mets and has written and appeared in "King of the Moon" for HBO.

Barbara Esstman, M.F.A. Creative Writing '87, has edited, with Virginia Hartman, A More Perfect Union: Poems And Stories About the Modern Wedding, St. Martin's Press. The book includes stories by Kathryn Abdul-Baki, M.A. English '85, and Jody Lannen Brady, M.F.A. Creative Writing '87. In addition, a paperback edition of Barbara's novel Night Ride Home will be out this fall. The novel has been published in nine foreign editions and is in development for film.

Ethel A. Kadwell, B.A. Communication '87, loves living in Florida and works as assistant director/business manager for a nonprofit agency that assists abused women and their children. She has studied for and passed an exam for community association manager.

Helen Roelle Master, B.A. Psychology '87, was married in November 1997 and works as a claims adjuster for USAA.

Sally (Plumb) Fuller, B.A. Government and Politics '88, is living in San Diego, Calif., with her husband and two sons. Sally received her master's degree in public administration from San Diego State University in December 1995.

Jennifer L. (Brauning) Warf, B.A. European Studies '88 and M.A.I.T. '96, married Donald Warf in 1995 and has a baby, Carl, born in October 1997. She works at Lockheed Martin Corporation as an administrative specialist.

Omar Altalib, B.A. Sociology '89, has become a member of the Board of the Minaret of Freedom Institute in Bethesda, Md.

Pete Kaiman, B.S. Economics '89 and M.B.A. '97, has accepted a job with Renaissance Worldwide as a project manager in the telecommunications and data networking industry.

1990s

Tracey (Howard) Short, B.A. Speech Communication '90, has moved to Tampa Bay, Fla., and is a writer for a local newspaper.

David S. Siecker, B.A. Speech Communication '90, married Anita M. Clark, B.S. Nursing '92, in June 1996, and they have a son, Kyle Matthew, born in November 1997.

Paul S. Adams, B.A. International Studies '91, will begin a Ph.D. program in political science at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst this fall.

Amy (Butterfield) Cole, B.A. Speech Communication '91, has been promoted to vice president of client services for The Forbes Group, a strategic counseling firm for associations, located in Fairfax, Va.

Denise Dougherty, B.A. Art History '91, is a museum technician and assistant to collections manager for works on paper at the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, in Washington, D.C. She married Mark Hunter Wamaling on February 15, 1998, and has exhibited artwork in a juried Smithsonian Staff Exhibition celebrating the 150th birthday of the Smithsonian. Her artwork was reproduced in the August 1996 issue of Smithsonian Magazine.

Samantha V. Fisher, B.A. English '91, has made a career change from reporter to realtor and loves it. In 1996, she was Rookie of the Year for Avery Hess Realtor, and in 1997, she hit the million dollar club. Samantha specializes in Loudoun County, Va.

Mary P. John, B.A. English '91, is technical editor for Architectural Computer Services, Inc., and is editor of its newsletter related to architectural specifications. She is engaged to marry Dale Erny on October 10, 1998.

Ann Kelly, B.S. Biology '91, received her Ph.D. from Medical College of Virginia, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, in April 1998. She is now working as a postdoctoral fellow at the American Red Cross in Rockville, Md.

Patricia LaCoste, M.A. English '91, received a Ph.D. in English with a concentration in rhetoric and composition from the University of Wisconsin­Milwaukee in December 1997, and begins a position as an assistant professor of English at North Carolina State University this fall.

Pauline (Robertson) Lanciotti, B.A. History '91, and her husband, Bob, have a daughter, Sarah Marie, born on February 8, 1998. They live in Morgantown, W.Va.

Ted Metzler, B.A. Art Studio '91, had his first solo show of his paintings, at eklektikos gallery in Georgetown, from April 16 through May 13, 1998.

Brian Ott, B.A. Speech Communication '91, earned a Ph.D. in speech communication from Penn State and has accepted a position as assistant professor of media studies at Colorado State University.

Carrie D. (Jones) Bright, B.A. Speech Communication '92, is married with one daughter, Alyssa Grace, who is two. Carrie is a certified meeting planner and is working toward certification as an association executive.

Whitney DiSandro Brooks, B.S. Biology '92, received an M.D. degree from George Washington University and is currently a resident in internal medicine at Vanderbilt, where she will soon start a fellowship in gastroenterology. Whitney married Jarred L. Brooks in July 1995.

Whitney (Wychoff) Hopler, B.A. English '92, is a freelance writer. She married Russ Hopler, B.A. English '92, in 1995, and they have a daughter, who was born in March 1998.

Ntinos (Dino) G. Karaiskos, B.A. Psychology '92 and B.A. Philosophy '93, was married in December 1997 and owns a business in Alexandria, Va.

Samantha Vanterpool, B.A. Government and Politics '92, earned her J.D. from the University of Maryland and has opened a general practice law office in Alexandria, Va., focusing on business law, labor law, and franchises.

Matthew Glenn Abel, B.S. Biology '93, received an M.D. degree from the Technion­Israel Institute of Technology, Faculty of Medicine, in Haifa, Israel. He will be a resident at Jersey Shore Medical Center in the Department of Pediatrics.

Sadaf Ardestani, B.A. International Relations and French '93, has earned an M.A. degree in international relations from Boston University, studying in Paris and Brussels. Sadaf is currently working for the Baan Company in Reston, Va.

Teresa L. Blackwell, B.A. Speech Communication '93, lives in Richmond, Va., and is the development director of the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Gina Rohleder Chambers, B.A. Mass Communication '93, married Kevin Chambers, B.A. Government and Politics '92, on December 13, 1997. They have purchased a house and are living in Baltimore, Md. Gina is an account executive for WJZ-TV, and Kevin works for Hilti, Inc., as a sales representative.

Julie Boone, B.A. Government and Politics '93, earned her M.Ed. degree in student personnel services from the University of South Carolina in May 1997 and is now a career counselor at Loyola University in New Orleans, La.

Rosa A. Cruz, B.A. International Studies '93, received an M.A. degree in public affairs/broadcast journalism from American University on May 17, 1998.

Steven A. Dolven, B.A. International Studies and Latin American Studies '93 and M.A. International Transactions '95, moved to Altanta, Ga., in January 1996 and works for IBM, selling services for mid-range and large systems. He married Wendy Weber in 1994.

Christy Ellen Latham, B.A. Psychology '93, received a master of divinity degree in missions, evangelism, and church growth from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary on May 22, 1998.

Gina Passantino, B.A. Government and Politics '93, earned an M.Ed. degree from Marymount University and has moved to Buffalo, N.Y., where she is a teacher.

Kacey Reed-Felts, B.A. Political Science '93, married Ken Felts on July 5, 1997, and she received a J.D. degree from the University of Richmond Law School in May 1998.

Krista L. Robinson, B.A. Psychology '93, is a Fairfax County SACC teacher and gave birth to a son, Collin Paul, on March 5, 1998.

Beth M. Baker, M.P.A. '94, works for the Defense Security Assistance Agency as a financial management analyst and has a new baby, Joshua Edward, for a total of three children.

Cesar G. Soriano, B.A. Speech Communication '94, is a reporter/researcher for USA Today's magazine, USA Weekend. He is also a sergeant in the Army National Guard and served a nine-month tour in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Christine Eads, B.F.A. Theater '94, lives in West Hollywood, Calif., and is a full-time, working actress.

Amy Hartt, B.S. Psychology '94, has relocated back to Texas after a brief stint on the West Coast. She is a health care technology and management consulting manager with First Consulting Group in Irving, Tex.

Sybille Klenzendorf, B.S. Biology '94, finished her M.S. in brown bear management in Europe in May 1997 and is currently working on her Ph.D. in black bear population dynamics in Virginia.

Linda S. Neher, M.A. Clinical Psychology '94 and Ph.D. '96, is a neuropsychologist at The Neuropsychology Center of Northern Virginia in Alexandria.

David Shenton, B.A. Psychology '94, lives in Richmond, Va., with his wife Nicole (Hinkson) Shenton, B.A. English '94. David is an investment consultant.

Kai Strom, B.A. Speech Communication '94, has switched occupations from freelance sports TV producer to golf professional and is working at Springfield Golf and Country Club in Springfield, Va.

Allison Marie (Oakley) Goldstein, B.A. English '94, is an on-air personality at WFLS in Fredericksburg, Va. She married William J. Goldstein, and they have a son, William A. Goldstein.

Michelle M. Lazarte, B.A. International Studies '95, is using her language skills (Spanish and French) in her job for Mnemonic Systems, Inc. She enjoys her work, which involves traveling all over the world and meeting important government officials.

Ken Oberg, B.S. Math Sciences '95, married Suzanne Barnett in July 1997 and is currently at Georgia Tech in the doctoral program in operations research.

Jamie Osborne, B.S. Public Administration '95, received a J.D. from the Columbus School of Law of The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C., on May 23, 1998.

Malcolm Scott Towle, B.A. Speech Communication '95, is the manager of marketing and communications for Security Industry Association in Alexandria, Va.

Kristi Turner, B.A. Government and Politics '95, graduated from California Western School of Law, class of 1998, and received the Richard D. Westbrook Award for her scholarship and advocacy skills. The award was presented at the California Western School of Law Award Luncheon.

Dara (Chilton) Turransky, B.A. Art Studio '95, married Alan Turransky in September 1996 and honeymooned in Italy. She plans to relocate to Seattle, Wash., and pursue an M.F.A. in graphic design.

Joan Renee (Nicholas) Walker, B.F.A. Dance '95, married Karnel Walker, B.S. Chemistry '94, in 1996. They are living in Columbus, Ohio, and Joan is in the Graduate School of Dance at Ohio State. Karnel is employed at the city's A2LA certified Surveillance Lab.

Alicia Marie Butler, M.P.A. '96, plans to marry Michael Sharp, B.A. Sociology '97, on September 12, 1998.

Elizabeth A. Larsen, M.A. Sociology '96, will begin coursework this fall at the University of Pittsburgh in the doctoral program in sociology, concentrating in the areas of gender, race, and class. She has a one-year-old daughter, Jessica Valerie.

Cynthia Marie Tesh-McCartan, B.A. Sociology '96, is a mortgage processor/closer at Navy Federal Credit Union. She completed a graduate internship at the National Women's Council in Dublin, Ireland, where she met her husband, Endra McCartan.

Michael L. Whitlock, B.A. Government and Politics '96, received a master of public policy degree from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He begins work as an economist for the General Accounting Office, Military Operations Group.

Jennifer M. Chait, M.P.A. '97, is deputy press secretary to Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani of New York City.

Steven Sabatino, B.A. Psychology '97, is engaged to Jennifer B. Stredler, B.A. Biology '95, and they are planning a May wedding in 1999. Gregory Stojakovich, B.A. Government and Politics '97, is vice president and partner of Horizon Service and Security in Haymarket, Va. He is enrolled in the graduate certificate program in nonprofit management at George Mason.

John R. Tutora, B.A. Government and Politics '97, is the director, government liaison and standards, for Northwest Airlines. After graduating from George Mason at age 41, he resigned his position with the FAA after more than 17 years to work in private industry.
