President's Letter

As George Mason University enters its 27th year, we have much of which we can and should be proud, as a university and as alumni.

This past summer, George Mason became the first university to host the World Congress on Information Technology, which was attended by nearly 2,000 leaders-business, technology, and political-from around the world. The event put the university in a bright spotlight at home and abroad.

Our alumni ranks continue to expand in number and stature. We have grown by 60 percent in the six short years since I received my degree in 1992 and began my involvement in the George Mason University Alumni Association. More important than our numbers, though, is the impact and prominence our alumni have in our community, both locally and worldwide, in a broad range of fields. We are making significant contributions in our fields of endeavor, in our communities, and to our alma mater. Each of our contributions, especially when we publicly acknowledge our relationship to George Mason, enhances the stature of the university and the value of our degrees.

So, too, is our Alumni Association extending its reach. During the past year, members of the board of directors established new liaisons with deans and directors of the schools and institutes whose graduates have not formed Alumni Association groups in order to support their efforts to strengthen ties with alumni. We will continue to expand these efforts in the current year. We also have added to our services, signing a contract with Hanover Insurance to provide personal property and casualty insurance at very favorable rates to interested alumni.

In closing, let me say that I look forward with enthusiasm to the coming year, and I invite all alumni to be involved in some way in the life of George Mason University and your Alumni Association. Please let us hear from you.
